Kaitlyn Scott McGurn, MA, LMHC
I am Licensed Mental Health Therapist (LMHC) and art therapist. I believe that children and adults have an innate resiliency and a natural tendency toward growth. I accept each client where they are and provide a safe space where clients can build self-awareness and a feeling of wellbeing and confidence. I use this approach in child-centered play therapy to create a welcoming environment for children to explore their inner experience through play. Play is a natural form of communication for children; a way for them to process their experiences and experiment with new behaviors to find ways to cope, gain self-control and self-reliance, and get their needs met.
I have worked with children and adolescents in the foster care system, at-risk toddlers and preschoolers in early intervention services, and families experiencing homelessness. I have also provided therapy groups for children living in homelessness and for children attending occupational therapy at Valley Medical Center’s Children’s Therapy Department.
I have a master’s in Mental Health Counseling and Art Therapy and I am working towards earring my Registered Play Therapist Credential the supervision of Rosie Newman, LMHC, RPT-S.
