The Clinical Fundamentals of Autism: Screening and Affirming Play Therapy Treatment for Autistic Youth — January 17, 2025

Many youth who are struggling with self-regulation, anxiety, and overwhelm are referred to us for Play Therapy. Sometimes there is a missing piece to their treatment and support: they are autistic and no one knows. If you are trying your usual Play Therapy techniques with clients and aren’t seeing progress, if you’ve been interested in learning more about how to screen for autism, or if you believe you’re working with undiagnosed autistic adolescents, this training can strengthen your confidence and skills!

Join Dr. Kade Sharp, an autistic LICSW, Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor, and Child Mental Health Specialist, as he explains the fundamentals of screening for autism, shifting your therapeutic style to meet the needs of autistic clients, and tailoring Play Therapy interventions to be affirming of autistic individuals. This training highlights diversity and cultural implications for serving the autistic community.
